Course Objectives:

We recognize the high rates of malocclusion in our patients, but we often miss the connection to how unhealthy they may be. This course will connect the dots from malocclusion to the everyday medical symptoms that our patients are struggling with. Clinical cases across all ages from 3 to adulthood will be presented highlighting expansive orthopedic and orthodontic techniques the GP dental team can utilize to help our patients heal.

After completing this course participants will be able to:
• Understand the history and origins of malocclusion
• Identify abnormal and normal head and neck development
• Understand the effect that an underdeveloped maxilla and mandible have on the airway
• Identify the differences between nasal and mouth breathing
• Understand the relationship between airway and sleeping
• Learn about the many downstream symptoms that are related to underdeveloped jaws
• Know what treatment options exist for all ages
• Understand the different collaborative opportunities that are available to help our patients
• Understand how these techniques impact the overall health and well-being of our patients
• Observe how jaw development can improve breathing and sleeping allowing our patients to heal
